DJI Phantom 4-The Best of the Best

DJI Phantom 4 Drone Review:

DJI just recently released a new quadcopter to their Phantom series, the DJI Phantom 4. It is packed with new features that make it even easier to fly than before. With an impressive 28-minute flight time and 5km of controllability, this is already impressive enough for me to say that the Phantom 4 is the currently the best quadcopter for functionality and simplicity. I will be sharing the new features and upgrades DJI has put in the new DJI Phantom 4.

New Features & Upgrades in DJI Phantom 4 :

1. New Obstacle Sensing System:

Object avoidance system is nothing new, like in DJI’s Matrice 100. The DJI Phantom 4 is now equipped with two front facing object sensing sensors with a max range of 15 meters. This now adds a whole new level to the autonomous flight because instead of simply setting a set altitude with the waypoints, the Phantom can now maneuver up and over objects like a mountain. This is also really helpful if Return to Home ever needs to be activated. Instead of the quadcopter rising a few meters from its current height and flying the shortest path to Home, it can now dodge things along its way. Very useful. However, some people turned this into a joke, saying that the Phantom 4 has “intelligent flyaways”; uncontrollably flying away while dodging obstacles. Excluding the joke, this feature is pretty damn impressive and elegantly incorporated into the aircraft.

2. Visual Tracking: TapFly

The new DJI Phantom 4 now has Follow Me mode. Unlike traditional Follow Me mode, the object it is tracking must need some sort of device equipped with a GPS module that records the location of the object and then transmitted to the quadcopter. DJI made the Follow Me much more effective by simply using the camera with image processing to track the object movements. You simply press on mobile tablet and create a box around the image you want to track, and the Phantom will follow it. With object avoidance system, you won’t even need the remote control.

3. Sport Mode, High speeds:

The DJI Phantom 4 now is incredibly fast. How fast? 20 meter per second fast. Usain Bolt, the world fastest sprinter ran the 100m in 9.45 seconds, the quadcopter, however, can finish a 100m in 5 seconds This type of speeds is helpful to get low and fast shots to keep up with the image you are trying to capture. You won’t need to worry about flying high to keep the shot in frame.

4. DJI Phantom 4 battery and battery life (Phantom 4 intelligent flight battery):

When you first look at the DJI Phantom 4, you may wonder if it is actually a DJI or an Apple product. The new sleek design that does not look cheap and plastic has a futuristic look to it. With a fresh polished white body and a metallic underbelly, the Phantom 4 looks sturdier even than before. On top of that, the Phantom now has elevated motors which lower the chances of having the propellers ruining a perfect shot. Now looking at the gimbal, the pitch axis is now being powered by two motors on each side of the camera. Lastly, the biggest difference you will notice is the size of the battery. DJI kept with a four cell setup but upgrading it to a massive 5350mah battery. That’s almost an extra 900mah from the Phantom 3.

DJI has made enormous improvements to the Phantom line. With new features like Object avoidance to allow painless autonomous flight, to follow me, a remote-less experience, it is by far the biggest upgrade for the Phantom. Reaching unbelievable speeds of 20m/s and whole new futuristic look, the DJI Phantom 4 is truly the best of the best.
