So how do quadcopter motors work?

First off, the propellers of your drone are connected to a motor. These quadcopter motors cause the propellers to spin around and create the thrust which is needed to make the quadcopter fly. In the case of multiple motors, the thrust is generally upward which keeps the drone flying. In the case of fixed wing aircraft, the thrust generated is forward which pushes the machine ahead.

When dealing with quadcopters, you will have to deal with two kinds of quadcopter motors namely, brushed motors and outrunner brushless motors. Usually, brushed motors are found in toy grade drones. They are cheap to manufacture but have a very short lifespan. Brushless motors are stronger and more durable. Brushless motors mainly comprise of rotor and stator. The stator contains the electromagnets whereas the rotor is the part that rotates and has magnets mounted on it in a radial pattern.

They contain a bunch of electromagnets which are connected together in specific pairs. The electronic speed controller or motor controller controls the motor by activating and deactivating certain sections of the electromagnets at certain times which causes the motors to spin due to the magnetic force. These electromagnets are connected to three main sections.
